USI concludes homestand with UW-Parkside

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana baseball team hopes to conclude a very successful 11-game homestand this weekend when it hosts a four-game series with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The first pitch for Saturday's twin-bill is slated for 3 p.m., while the series concludes with Sunday's doubleheader at 1 p.m.

Coverage of the Screaming Eagles' games, including live stats and audio broadcasts, is available at gousieagles.com.

The Eagles (17-12, 7-11 GLVC) are 5-2 during the homestand by taking a pair from Kentucky Wesleyan College, splitting a four-game series with the University of Indianapolis, and opening this week with a win over Brescia University.

Pitching has led the way for the Eagles during the homestand as the USI hurlers have a 1.59 ERA in 68.0 innings of work. USI junior right-hander Matt Bowles (Mt. Washington, Kentucky) has won two of the seven games, posting a 0.69 ERA in 13.0 innings.

For the season, Bowles leads the Eagles in wins with a 6-2 mark. He also has a 3.40 ERA in 47.2 innings, striking out a team-high 35 batters.

Junior right-hander Ben Wright (Newburgh, Indiana) has the best ERA during the homestand, recording a 0.66 in two starts. He opened the home swing with a victory over KWC. Wright is tied for second in victories this year with junior right-hander David Toth (Danville, Indiana), each logging four wins.

At the plate this year, freshman outfielder Hamilton Carr (Evansville, Indiana) leads the way with a .404 batting average. The USI lead-off man also has a team-best seven stolen bases.

The Eagles' top run producer is freshman first baseman Andrew Cope (Evansville, Indiana) with 17 RBIs. Senior outfielder B.J. Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior third baseman Reece Rounder (Evansville, Indiana) follow with 16 RBIs each.

The Rangers of UW-Parkside (1-15, 1-13 GLVC) have struggled this season, picking up their only win of the season last weekend at McKendree University. UW-Parkside also has yet to play a home game this season due to the wet and cold weather.

USI trails UW-Parkside in the all-time series, 24-23, but took three of four from the Rangers last year. The Eagles also have won 11 of the last 13 contests between the two teams.
