EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team announced its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Quincy University has been moved to Friday in Evansville, Indiana. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at the USI Softball Field.
USI (6-3, 0-0 GLVC) has won four straight games, but has been idle since its February 24 wins over Tiffin University and Ohio Dominican University.
Sophomore pitcher
Brooke Harmening is leading the Screaming Eagles during their four-game win streak, both at the plate and in the circle. Harmening is hitting .545 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in the last four games. She is 3-0 with a 0.32 ERA and a .129 opponent batting average.
For the season, Harmening is 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA and a .180 opponent batting average. She has 25 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 35 innings of work.
Junior outfielder
Teri Newmaster has a team-best .438 batting average, while Harmening and junior pitcher/designated player
Kelsey Jankowski have a team-high five RBIs.
Quincy (4-9, 0-0 GLVC), which played Lake Erie College earlier today—results were unavailable at the time of this release—to finish its trip to the Rebel Spring Games, has won four of its last eight games after beginning the year with a 0-5 record.
Sophomore pitcher Wendy Macias is 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA to lead the Lady Hawks defensively, while sophomore infielder Alanna Viken is hitting .290 with a home run and six RBIs to pace Quincy at the plate.
Following USI's twinbill with Quincy, the Eagles travel to Kissimmee, Florida, to take on the University of Illinois Springfield Monday in a GLVC doubleheader beginning at noon (CDT).
The Eagles begin the Rebel Spring Games Tuesday in Kissimmee with games against Southwest Minnesota State University (8 a.m.) and Adelphi University (10 a.m.). USI also plays Saint Cloud State University and Midwest Region foe Ferris State University Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. It concludes the Rebel Spring Games Thursday with games against Minnesota State University Moorhead (8 a.m.) and Tiffin (10 a.m.).
USI returns home March 16 when it hosts the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a GLVC doubleheader. The Eagles conclude the weekend a day later by hosting Maryville University in a conference twinbill. First pitch on both days is slated for noon.
