EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Seniors
Colton White and
Reece Rounder each had two hits to lead the University of Southern Indiana baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Augustana College Sunday evening in the Dunn Hospitality Classic.
The Screaming Eagles (8-1) struck in their half of the first after a two-out double by White and then an RBI single by Rounder.
The score would remain the same until the fourth when junior
A.J. Dokey singled home White.
Junior
Matt Bowles (2-1) was dealing from the mound, as the Mt. Washington, Kentucky, native pitched seven innings, allowed one run on seven hits, walked one and fanned five to earn his second victory.
The bullpen pitched the final two innings, allowed two hits, but walked three and fanned a pair.
Senior
Scott Spears, who saw his first action of the season struck out his first batter before giving way to junior
Brandon Shaw. Shaw, who collected his first save of 2013 had the bases loaded behind him before striking out Augustana's (8-7) Jake Petersen to end the contest.
USI has Monday off before concluding the Dunn Hospitality Classic Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Vikings meet the University of Indianapolis Monday for a twin bill at noon.
