Eagles use big innings in win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Junior David Toth tossed six innings of shutout ball, as the University of Southern Indiana baseball team defeated Lake Erie College 14-2 Saturday afternoon.
 
The Screaming Eagles (2-0) scored on a first inning single when senior Colton White knocked a run in. White on the afternoon was 4-for-5 with an RBI, while also scoring three times. It was the first four hit game for the Springfield, Illinois, native.
 
USI went on a scoring spree in the third and fourth innings as the Eagles sent 19 to the plate and scored 10 times.
 
Freshman Andrew Cope knocked in two runs on a single in the third and junior Brad Wannemuehler drove a pair in during the fourth.
 
In the fifth frame, USI got back on the board when it plated two runs on a junior Caleb Eickhoff RBI single. Eickhoff on the afternoon was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and scored twice. 
 
Toth in his first action in a USI uniform tossed 4.2 innings of no-hit baseball before LEC (0-2) could get its first base knock. For the afternoon, Toth allowed a lead-off walk, fanned seven and retired 11 straight before the aforementioned base hit. 
 
The Eagles and Storm conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for noon.
