EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team opens its 2013 home schedule this weekend when it hosts the USI Spring Classic at the USI Softball Field at the Broadway Recreation Complex.

USI (3-3) begins the four-team, two-day classic Saturday with Ohio Dominican University at 2 p.m. The Screaming Eagles also play Tiffin University and Ohio Dominican Sunday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

Kentucky Wesleyan College opens the USI Spring Classic Saturday at noon when it takes on Tiffin. The Panthers also play Tiffin Sunday at noon as well as Ohio Dominican Sunday at 2 p.m.

Eight games were originally scheduled to be played Saturday and Sunday, but with frigate temperatures expected in the Evansville area Saturday morning, the first day's slate of games was cut from four to two.

The Eagles are coming off a 4-1 victory over the University of West Georgia this past Sunday at the Charger Chillout in Decatur, Alabama.

Sophomore hurler Brooke Harmening gave up just one run off three hits in the victory, while junior outfielder Kyla Gogel had a two-run triple in the sixth inning.

Harmening (2-1) was impressive in the opening weekend as she posted a 2.80 ERA in four appearances on the weekend. She also limited opposing hitters to a .216 batting average.

Freshman utility player Janna Green and junior outfielder Teri Newmaster led USI at the plate with batting averages of .429 and .364, respectively. Harmening had a team-high five RBIs, including a grand slam against Franklin Pierce University last Saturday.

All four teams competing at the USI Spring Classic this weekend began the season at the Charger Chillout. Ohio Dominican and Kentucky Wesleyan each went 1-5 to open the year, while Tiffin was 2-4.
