DECATUR, Ala.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the University of West Georgia, 4-1, Sunday and salvage a split of the final day of the Charger Chillout.

USI (3-3) capitalized on three West Georgia errors in the frame, the first of which turned a looping single by freshman shortstop Janna Green into a two-bagger to lead the inning off.

Green, who broke up a no-hitter by West Georgia's Megan Roberts, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the tying run in the next at-bat as on a throwing error by Roberts.

The error allowed sophomore catcher/infielder MacKenzi Dorsam to reach second base, which set up sophomore pitcher Brooke Harmening for the go-ahead, RBI-single in the ensuing at-bat.

Junior outfielder Kyla Gogel hit a two-run triple two batters later to give USI a comfortable three-run cushion.

Harmening (2-1) earned the win after giving up just one run—a towering solo shot by West Georgia third baseman Nicole Yancey in the sixth inning—off three hits in seven innings of work. She struck out four batters and issued three walks in her second complete-game victory of the weekend.

Earlier in the day, two hit batters, two walks, two wild pitches, and a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning led to five Delta State University runs in a 5-3 setback.

The Eagles, who led 1-0 after scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the first frame, cut into a 5-1 deficit as freshman utility player Toni Braun doubled and scored on an error two batters later. USI added its third run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, but could not bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh as Delta State hurler Miller Maddox retired the side in order.

Junior pitcher Kelsey Jankowski took the loss for the Eagles after giving up five runs off three hits in 1.2 innings of work. Freshman hurler Sarah Owens came on in relief and allowed just one hit in 4.1 innings of work.

The Eagles open their home schedule next weekend when they host the USI Spring Classic at the USI Softball Field. USI begins the four-team, two-day classic Saturday against Ohio Dominican University at 10 a.m. and Tiffin University at 4 p.m.
