EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team opens the 2013 season this weekend at the Charger Chillout in Decatur, Alabama.
USI begins the three-day, six-game classic Friday at 1 p.m. when it takes on Midwest Region foe Wayne State University. The Screaming Eagles conclude the opening day at 5 p.m. when they play the University of North Alabama.
The Eagles also play Franklin Pierce University Saturday at 11 a.m.; the University of West Alabama Saturday at 1 p.m.; Delta State University Sunday at 1 p.m.; and the University of West Georgia Sunday at 3 p.m.
USI returns 11 players from last season's squad that went 27-21 overall and 16-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. That list includes All-GLVC hurler
Brooke Harmening, who was 16-13 with a 2.10 ERA and 144 strikeouts as a freshman in 2012.
Following the Charger Chillout, the Eagles open their 24-game home schedule February 23-24 when they host the USI Spring Classic at the USI Softball Field.
