Eagles drop series and season finale

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team dropped its series finale with Saint Joseph's College, 9-4, Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field to end the 2012 season. USI concludes the season with a 26-24 overall mark and 16-20 record in the GLVC, while Saint Joseph's finishes the year 17-31, 16-19 GLVC.
 
The Screaming Eagles fell behind early as the Pumas struck for three runs in the first and four runs in the second innings. USI did chip away at the early deficit with a RBI single by senior designated hitter Dylan Mooney (St. Charles, Missouri) in the first inning and a RBI double by senior centerfielder Brennan Malham (Auburn, Illinois) in the third inning.
 
USI narrowed the Saint Joseph's margin to 7-3 in the sixth when Malham scored on a ground out by Mooney. Malham would get the Eagles as close as 7-4 in the eighth, scoring after Mooney grounded into a double play.
 
The Pumas sealed the game in the ninth with a pair of tallies for the 9-4 final.
 
On the mound for USI, senior right-hander Ben Lady (Louisville, Kentucky) took the loss in relief. Lady (2-2) pitched one inning, allowing four hits, four runs, and two walks while striking out two. He relieved senior left-hander Scott Cole (Patrick, Virginia), who made an appearance on Senior Day to throw one pitch due to an injury.
 
Junior left-hander Adam Carver (Arthur, Illinois) followed Lady to the mound, throwing two-thirds of an inning and allowing three runs on two hits and two walks.
 
The bright spot for the Eagles was junior right-hander Keith Greer (Lowell, Indiana). Greer allowed two runs, one earned, on 10 hits in 7.1 innings, while striking out three.
