USI's post-season dream ended with shutout

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team saw its post-season chances disappear after being shut out by Saint Joseph's College, 4-0, Friday evening at the USI Baseball Field. USI sees its record go to 24-23 overall and 14-19 in the GLVC, while Saint Joseph's goes to 16-29, 15-17 GLVC.
 
Pumas right-hander Eric Meyerchick scattered five Screaming Eagle hits over nine inning in throwing his first shutout of the season. Meyerchick set down the first 16 USI hitters in a row and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. He also allowed only one USI runner to reach third base in the game.
 
Although he took the loss, the Eagles got a very good outing from freshman right-hander Ben Wright (Newburgh, Indiana). Wright (5-5) allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and walk, while striking three in eight innings of work.
 
USI senior right-hander Silas Dill (Bernie, Missouri) pitched the ninth for USI and allowed two runs, one earned on one hits and one walk.
 
The Pumas took advantage of three Eagle errors in the game. USI committed an error in the Saint Joseph's two-run fifth and two errors in the Pumas two-run ninth.
 
The Eagles and Pumas resume the four-game series Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the USI Baseball Field.
