LOUISVILLE, Ky.—University of Southern Indiana men's track and field junior Michael Jordan returned from having emergency appendectomy surgery less than three weeks ago to record a sub-nine-minute time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night at the University of Louisville Cardinal Twilight.

Jordan finished third in the field with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of eight minutes, 59.23 seconds, marking the third time this season he has posted a sub-nine-minute time in the event.

He was one of two Screaming Eagles to compete at the Cardinal Twilight Friday night. Freshman Will Hogston finished seventh in the 5,000 meters with a season-best and USI freshman record time of 14 minutes, 43.43 seconds.

Selections to the 2012 NCAA II Outdoor Championships will be announced Tuesday. Jordan and senior Dustin Emerick have already secured berths for the national meet, which is May 24-26 in Pueblo, Colorado, while junior Michael Callison has a strong provisional qualifying time in the steeplechase.
