LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Junior Michael Callison improved his chances of competing at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships next month as he finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team at the Bellarmine Classic Saturday.

Callison crossed the finish line with a season-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of nine minutes, 1.99 seconds, nearly 40 seconds faster than the second-place mark recorded by USI junior Ethan Jacob.

Jacob recorded one of 20 top-10 finishes and 11 top-five efforts for the Screaming Eagles Saturday. Senior John Latta was second in the 5,000 meters, while freshmen Zach Watson and Dylan Rubenacker were second and third, respectively, in the high jump.

Freshman Will Hogston and junior Michael Whitehead were third and fifth, respectively, in the 1,500 meters, while junior Garrett Blackman and sophomore David Gladys were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the steeplechase.

USI also was third in the 4x400-meter relay and fourth in the 4x100-meter relay.

Senior Dustin Emerick is scheduled to make his bid for an NCAA II automatic qualifying time in the 10,000 meters Sunday at 10:20 p.m. (PDT) when he competes at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California. The Eagles return to action as a team May 4-5 when they compete at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Rensselaer, Indiana.
