EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Sophomore pitcher
Kelsey Jankowski recorded her second complete-game shutout of the season to lead the University of Southern Indiana softball team to a 10-0, five-inning victory over visiting Brescia University in the second game of doubleheader Wednesday at the USI Softball Field. The Screaming Eagles notched a 5-0 victory in the opener as they earned the sweep.
Jankowski (5-0), who finished the game with a career-high seven RBIs, had a three-run double in the home half of the first inning and a three-run home run in the second inning as the Eagles cruised to the five-inning victory.
USI (18-8) sandwiched a four-run second inning between a pair of three-run frames as it led 10-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning.
Junior shortstop
Stephanie Bittner, who was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and two runs scored, had an RBI-single in the second inning before Jankowski's home run. Freshman catcher
MacKenzi Dorsam and freshman first baseman
Mollie Thomas each had RBI-singles in the third inning, while Jankowski rounded out USI's scoring with an RBI-groundout.
Dorsam, who was 3-of-3 in the opener, hit her first career collegiate home run in the bottom of the second inning of game one to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Sophomore leftfielder
Kyla Gogel had an RBI-double in the sixth inning to give USI a 2-0 advantage, while junior rightfielder
Katherine Belsito had an RBI-single to give USI a 3-0 edge two batters later.
Freshman second baseman
Kara Werner followed Belsito with a two-run double as USI tacked on four runs in the sixth frame to give freshman pitcher
Brooke Harmening more than enough support to earn her team-best third shutout of the year.
Harmening (9-6), who struck out seven batters, surrendered just one hit and three walks throughout seven innings of work.
The Eagles return to action Saturday at noon when they visit Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division foe Lewis University in a conference doubleheader in Romeoville, Illinois.
