USI traveling for next 10 games
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana baseball team begins a 10-game road swing over the next two weeks in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, starting with a noon doubleheader Saturday at the University of Illinois Springfield. USI concludes the first weekend with a noon double-dip Sunday at Quincy University.

The Screaming Eagles (11-6, 2-2 GLVC) is coming off a 2-2 weekend with a pair of teams from the GLVC West Division. USI split a doubleheader Saturday versus Maryville University and Sunday against the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Leading the way on the mound was freshman right-hander
Ben Wright (Newburgh, Indiana), who recorded his first shutout of the year Sunday against the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He gave USI eight strong innings, scattering five hits and striking out a season-best four batters.
For the season, Wright has a team-best 4-0 record and is tied with senior left-hander
Scott Cole (Patrick, Virginia) with a 2.48 ERA. Cole follows Wright in the win column with a 3-1 mark.
At the plate, sophomore centerfielder
Brad Wannemuehler (Evansville, Indiana) hit a team-best .500 (8-16) with four runs scored, two RBIs, and three stolen bases. Junior rightfielder
B.J. Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a great start to the weekend, batting .750 (6-8) in the two games with Maryville before missing the doubleheader with UMSL due to injury.
Willis, who could be available for this weekend's games, leads with a .382 average and eight stolen bases. Senior second baseman
Ryan Kaczmarski (Mishawaka, Indiana) follows with a .359 batting average, while freshman third baseman
Reece Rounder (Evansville, Indiana) is third with a .344 average and a team-best 15 RBIs.
Nationally, USI fell into a tie for 27
th in the
Collegiate Baseball/Division II Top 30 poll. The Eagles also fell to 17
th in the College Baseball Lineup top 30 web poll and 25
th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25.
UIS (4-10, 0-4 GLVC), who plays Lewis University Wednesday before welcoming USI this weekend, was 0-4 in the first weekend of GLVC play. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Prairie Stars, 4-0, after winning a pair of non-conference match-ups earlier this month. USI defeated UIS, 4-2 and 10-3, in the Dunn Hospitality Tournament.
Quincy (7-7, 2-0 GLVC), who hosts the University of Upper Iowa Wednesday and Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday before greeting the Eagles, starts the week with a three-game winning streak. The Hawks started GLVC action with two wins at Northern Kentucky University before getting rained out at Bellarmine University.
The USI-Quincy all-time series is knotted up, 32-32, after the Hawks took two of three from the Eagles during the GLVC Tournament last spring.
