EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team kept its post-season hopes alive Saturday afternoon as it shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second half to rally from a 10-point halftime deficit and defeat Lewis University, 72-62, at the Physical Activities Center.

Brooke Valentine hit a jumper from the top of the key to start an 8-0 USI run. Sophomore guard
Stephanie Carpenter, who scored a career and game-high 22 points, drained a three-pointer moments as USI's lead extended to five with four minutes to play.

Cootie Leeberg in the next minute of the contest gave USI a comfortable 63-55 advantage, a lead the Screaming Eagles extended to 11 before settling on the 10-point win.

USI (8-15, 2-13 GLVC), which trailed by as many as 14 late in the first half and 35-25 at the break, began to pick up momentum early in the second period as freshman forward/center
Cayla Herbst scored six straight points to bring the Eagles to within four (35-31).
The Flyers (6-17, 4-11 GLVC), who had won two straight games entering Saturday's contest, answered the Eagles' charge with a pair of buckets by freshman guard Jamie Johnson; but an 11-3 USI run that featured five points apiece from Carpenter and senior guard/forward
Kristin Raker brought the Eagles into a 42-42 tie with less than 15 minutes to play in the contest.
After a Lewis basket put the Eagles into a brief two-point deficit, USI put together an 8-0 spurt to take its first lead of the half (50-44).
The Flyers answered with a 5-0 push to get to within a point with just under eight minutes to play; then came back with a 4-0 spurt a couple minutes later to pull into a 55-55 tie.
Rebounding played a big factor for the Eagles, who out-rebounded the Flyers 30-18 in the final 20 minutes and 42-36 for the game. USI also drained eight three-pointers, four apiece from Carpenter and Raker, while the Flyers were held to just 5-of-27 (.185) from downtown.
In addition to Carpenter, the Eagles got 15 points from Raker, 12 of which came in the final 20 minutes, and 12 rebounds from Valentine. Herbst added seven points, all of which came in the second half, while freshman forward/center

Freshman forward Jess Reinhart led the Flyers with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Eagles conclude their regular-season home schedule Thursday at 5:15 p.m. when they host Bellarmine University at the PAC. Thursday's game is Senior Night for the Eagles, who will honor Leeberg and Raker.
