Eagles start round two against GLVC East Division

Game Notes (pdf.)

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team begins round two against the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when it travels to Rensselaer, Indiana, to take on Saint Joseph's College. The Screaming Eagles conclude the weekend with a trip to Indianapolis to take on the University of Indianapolis Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST).

Both games will be carried on the radio at WPSR 90.7 FM, while game coverage, including audio, video, and live stats, can be found at gousieagles.com.

The Eagles (7-12, 1-10 GLVC) are looking to bounce back from a 64-52 loss to Northern Kentucky University this past Saturday at the Physical Activities Center. An early 14-0 NKU run proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome as they dropped their second straight decision and 11th in the last 13 games.

USI's only GLVC win this year came at the expense of its opponent Thursday evening. The Eagles used a 12-0 start and held on for a 58-55 victory over Saint Joseph's at the PAC less than two weeks ago.

Sophomore forward/center Nicole Hazemi led the Eagles with 11 points, while three other Eagles each finished with nine points. The Eagles held the Pumas to a 27.9 percent shooting clip, including 21.2 percent from downtown, as they snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Saint Joseph's (12-7, 6-5 GLVC), which snapped a four-game skid with its 87-82 win over Lewis University this past Saturday, got 13 points and 11 rebounds from senior guard Montrell Mills in the loss to USI. Mills currently leads the Pumas with 15.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per appearance this season.

The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Pumas, 32-23, and are 16-3 in the series since 2000. USI trails the all-time series with Indianapolis, 34-26, and is 13-7 in the series since 2000 after suffering a 66-49 setback to the Greyhounds at the PAC two weeks ago.

Indianapolis (14-5, 8-3 GLVC), which is receiving votes in the latest USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Poll, got 23 points from junior guard Kristin Turner and 15 points from junior forward Nickole Gosner in the win over the Eagles. Turner currently leads the GLVC with 18.9 points per game after scoring 24 points in the Greyhounds' 73-70 setback to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside this past Saturday.

Indianapolis, which hosts Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday evening, has lost two of its last three games since its win at USI.

Sophomore guard Stephanie Carpenter led the Eagles with 17 points in their loss to the Greyhounds. Freshman forward/center Anna Hackert, who missed the game against Saint Joseph's, added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Hackert, who led USI with 11 points in its loss to Northern Kentucky, leads the Eagles with 11.1 points per game. She is tied with freshman forward Brooke Valentine for the team lead in rebounding (6.0 rpg).
