Eagles return to PAC, GLVC play

Game Notes (pdf.)

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team returns to the Physical Activities Center Thursday at 5:15 p.m. when it hosts Missouri University of Science & Technology in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest. USI closes its two-game homestand Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Drury University at the PAC.

USI (6-4, 0-2 GLVC) is coming off a tough 77-58 setback to Wayne State University last Friday and is hoping a return to the PAC, where the Screaming Eagles are 5-0 this year, will get it into the win column in conference play.

The Eagles have dominated the opposition at the PAC this season, outscoring their opponents by an average of 39.6 points per contest (91.6-52.0). In addition, the Eagles are shooting 51.7 percent from the field at the PAC, 41.8 percent from three-point range, and are holding the opposition to a .312 shooting percentage, .250 from behind the arc.

In five games away from the PAC, the Eagles are 1-4 and are being outscored by an average of 9.6 points per game (70.2-60.6). USI is shooting 36.6 percent from the field and 22.5 percent from behind the arc away from the PAC, while opponents are shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range.

The Eagles have five players averaging in double figures at the PAC, with freshman forward/center Anna Hackert leading the way with 13.0 points per appearance.

For the season, Hackert is averaging a team-high 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while senior guard/forward Kristin Raker is chipping in 11.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per appearance.

Missouri S&T (8-2, 3-0 GLVC), which is receiving votes in the latest USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll,  is coming off a rare two-game losing streak following the holiday break. The Miners, who began the season with eight straight wins to take control of the GLVC West Division, fell victim to The University of Findlay and Northwood University last week in Findlay, Ohio.

Junior forward Hailee Parks leads the Miners with 12.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest, while senior guard/forward Julie Meyer is chipping in 10.0 points and a team-leading 2.9 assists per outing.

The Miners lead the all-time series with the Eagles, 11-1, and are 9-1 in the series since 2000 after defeating USI, 73-51, last year at the PAC.

USI also trails Drury, 7-3, in the all-time series despite last season's 63-59 win over the Panthers at the PAC.

Drury (7-4, 2-1 GLVC), which visits GLVC East Division front-runner Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday evening, is coming off a 68-61 victory over McKendree University Monday evening in Springfield, Missouri.

Sophomore guard Bethanie Funderburk and junior guard Katie Pritchard are pacing the Panthers with 14.7 and 10.2 points per game, respectively.
