EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Despite holding a decisive rebounding advantage, the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team could not overcome a four-minute scoring drought in the opening period as it fell to the University of Indianapolis, 66-49, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division duel Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center.
Junior guard Kristin Turner, the reigning GLVC Player of the Week, and sophomore guard Katy McIntosh combined for all of Indianapolis's scoring in a 16-2 run that turned a 12-11 advantage with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half into a commanding 28-13 lead with six minutes to play in the opening stanza.

Trailing 16-13, the Screaming Eagles (6-10, 0-8 GLVC) endured a scoring drought that lasted nearly four minutes. Turner scorched the Eagles during the drought, scoring 12 of her 18 first-half points during the stretch to give the Greyhounds the 15-point advantage.
USI, which got a team-high 17 points from sophomore guard
Stephanie Carpenter, trimmed the deficit to 11 on multiple occasions in the first half before going into the locker room facing a 36-23 halftime disadvantage.
Indianapolis (13-3, 7-1 GLVC), which got six blocks from junior forward Sydney Weinert, extended its lead to 18 points early in the second period and never let the Eagles get any closer than 11 throughout the remainder of the contest.
Despite the score, the Eagles held a 40-29 rebounding advantage, including an 18-7 lead in offensive rebounds. Indianapolis, though, shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half and was 8-of-19 from three-point range in the contest as it won its 13 game in the last 14 outings.
In addition to Carpenter's 17 points, USI got eight points and three assists from sophomore guard
Ariel Barnes as well as eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds from freshman forward/center
Anna Hackert.
