Vance hits home run to keep USI alive

Eagles vs. Hawks tonight at approximately 7:15 p.m.
 
SAUGET, Ill.  – University of Southern Indiana junior shortstop Brad Vance (Louisville, Kentucky) hit a two-run home run in the eighth to lead the top-seeded Screaming Eagles to a 7-5 win over fourth-seeded Quincy University Saturday afternoon in Sauget, Illinois. The victory kept the Eagles alive and  forced a second elimination game at 7:15 p.m. tonight for the right to play for the GLVC Championship.
 
After spotting the Hawks leads of 3-0, the Screaming Eagles had to fight their way back into the game. The Eagles cut the lead to 3-2 on a two-run double by Vance in the third inning. USI pulled even with Quincy, 5-5, in the sixth when senior centerfielder Justin Blinn (Vincennes, Indiana) doubled in senior first baseman Adam Enright (Hammond, Indiana) and junior third baseman Ryan Kaczmarski (Mishawaka, Indiana).
 
Senior right-hander Jared Canterbury (Petersburg, Illinois) picked up his first win of the season in relief of senior right-hander Dan Marcacci (Jupiter, Florida). Canterbury (1-2) pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.
 
Marcacci went the first 5.2 and earned a no decision. He allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits and two walks, while striking three.
