BOX SCORE

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – University of Southern Indiana junior catcher Jarrod Rose (Mishawaka, Indiana) scored the winning run on a safety squeeze by senior centerfielder Justin Blinn (Vincennes, Indiana) to lead the 14th-ranked Screaming Eagles to a 3-1 win Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI rises to 30-15 overall and 22-8 in the GLVC, while UIndy falls to 26-18, 15-17 GLVC.

The Eagles finish the nine-game homestand with a 5-4 and the 2011 home schedule with a 12-8 record.

Rose started the game-winning rally in the seventh inning by being hit by a pitch. He proceeded to steal second when UIndy tried to pick him off and advanced third on the play when Greyhound first baseman Derek Locascio threw the ball into leftfield. UIndy walked junior second baseman Ryan Kaczmarski (Michawaka, Indiana) before Blinn laid down the game-winning sacrifice down the first base line.

The Eagles sealed the victory in the eighth when senior first baseman Adam Enright (Hammond, Indiana) singled in junior shortstop Brad Vance (Louisville, Kentucky) for the 3-1 lead and eventual final score. USI scored the first run of the game in the third inning when Kaczmarski scored on a sacrifice fly by senior leftfielder Michael Huling (South Bend, Indiana).

On the mound, senior right-hander Dan Marcacci (Jupiter, Florida) was dominating in getting his fourth win of the year. Marcacci (4-1) allowed one run on three hits and three walks, while striking out three in seven innings.

Senior right-hander Jared Canterbury (Petersburg, Illinois) finished the game and picked up his first save as an Eagle. Canterbury allowed two hits in his two innings, while striking out one.

USI concludes the regular season and the GLVC schedule next weekend on the road at Saint Joseph's College. The four-game series begins with a noon doubleheader May 7 and concludes with a noon twinbill on May 8.
