LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 14
th-ranked University of Southern Indiana baseball team took advantage of five Bellarmine University errors and earned a split in the four-game series with a 4-3 victory Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky. USI rises to 16-8 overall and 8-2 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine falls to 12-12 overall, 5-4 GLVC.
After the Knights took an early lead the bottom of the fourth, the Screaming Eagles took advantage of two Bellarmine errors to push three runs across the plate in the top of the sixth and led 3-1. USI upped the margin to 4-1 with a tally in the top of the seventh as the Eagles took advantage of Bellarmine's fifth error of the game.
Bellarmine chipped away at the lead with a tally in the bottom of the seventh and the ninth to cut the lead to 4-3 before USI was able to close out the game.

Brad Vance (Louisville, Kentucky), senior designated hitter
Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois), and junior third baseman
Ryan Kaczmarski (Mishawaka, Indiana) led the Eagles at the plate with two hits each. Vance and senior first baseman
Adam Enright (Hammond, Indiana) also had the only two USI RBIs in the game.
On the mound, junior right-hander
Josh Schultze (Evansville, Indiana) picked up the win after going 6.1 innings. Schultze (3-2) allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks, while striking out four.
Senior right-hander
Dan Marcacci (Jupiter, Florida) closed out the game for the Eagles and earned his fourth save of the season. Marcacci struck out a pair in addition to allowing one run on four hits and a walk.
The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the USI Baseball Field April 5-6 when they host Kentucky Wesleyan College for a two-game series. First pitch each night is 6 p.m.
USI holds an 83-60 record against the cross-river rival after splitting a doubleheader at home last spring.
