USI falls in the "Battle at the Braun"

Winning streak snapped at 12

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – The 14th-ranked University of Southern Indiana baseball team had its 12-game winning snapped with a 3-0 loss to the University of Evansville in the “Battle at the Braun” Tuesday night at Braun Stadium. USI sees its record fall to 14-6, while Evansville goes to 12-8.
 
The Screaming Eagles spotted the Aces a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Evansville sandwiched three hits around a throwing error by senior second baseman Ben Griggs (Evansville, Indiana) to plate the three runs.
 
Three Evansville hurlers shutdown the USI batters, limiting them to just four hits. USI tied to mount rallies in the fifth and eighth, but left a pair runners on-base in each of the innings.
 
On the mound for USI, junior right-hander Josh Schultze (Evansville, Indiana) lost his second game of the season after going the first 6.2 innings. Schultze (2-2) allowed three runs, one earned, and three hits in the first inning, but shut the Aces down in the next 5.2 innings.
 
USI returns to the road in the GLVC at the end of the week when they visit Bellarmine University for a four-game series in Louisville, Kentucky. The series starts 6 p.m. Friday when the Eagles and the Knights square off under the lights at St. Xavier High School in Louisville. The remainder of the series will be played at Bellarmine's Knights Field with Saturday's doubleheader starting at noon (CDT) and Sunday's single game beginning at 11 a.m. (CDT).
 
The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the USI Baseball Field April 5-6 when they host Kentucky Wesleyan College for a two-game series. First pitch each night is 6 p.m.
