Tournament features 19 games in 13 days

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team opens the fourth annual Dunn Hospitality Tournament Friday at 4 p.m. when it hosts the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The USI-UMSL match-up is the start of 19 games in 13 days at the USI Baseball Field.

 

In addition to USI and UMSL from the GLVC, the Dunn Hospitality Tournament features Bellarmine University, the University of Illinois-Springfield, the University of Indianapolis, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Non-conference teams in the tournament are Wayne State College (Nebraska) and St. Cloud State University.

 

The Screaming Eagles (3-5) are off to a slow start, but got back on track with a 3-2 ninth-inning win in the final game of the University of Montevallo series. USI is just two games off the national championship pace of a year ago.

 

USI senior right-hander Trevor Leach (Danville, Indiana) will take the mound Friday afternoon in his second attempt to become the Eagles' all-time leader in victories. Leach (1-1, 2.70 ERA) fell short in his first attempt, losing 2-1 to Montevallo in USI's home opener. He scattered eight hits, while allowing two runs, one earned, in 8.1 innings of work against the Falcons.

 

Junior infielder Ryan Kaczmarski (Mishawaka, Indiana) continues to lead the Eagles at the plate with a .367 batting average, while senior infielder Brad Vance (Louisville, Kentucky) has a USI-best eight RBIs this spring.
