USI are away for next 11 games
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team completes its move to the GLVC East Division when it opens the 2011 conference schedule this weekend on the road at former West Division foes Missouri University of Science & Technology Saturday and Drury University Sunday. Saturday and Sunday are noon doubleheaders.
Doubleheader coverage, including audio and live stats, can be accessed at gousieagles.com. Fans also can listen to all of the action on WSWI 820AM.
The Screaming Eagles (8-5, 0-0 GLVC) have righted the ship with six-straight victories after starting the year with a 3-5 mark. Senior right-handed pitcher and designated hitter
Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois) is leading the way for the Eagles during the winning streak.
Choate, who was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Week, recorded two of USI's five Dunn Hospitality Tournament wins last week on the mound. He also posted his first complete game and shutout since having elbow surgery a year ago with the 4-0 win over St. Cloud State University.
At the plate, Choate had a team-best .438 batting average and had a .750 slugging percentage with three doubles and a triple. He was second on the squad with five runs scored and four RBIs.
The Miners of Missouri S&T (6-6, 0-0 GLVC) have won two of their last three games since breaking a three-game losing streak. USI leads the all-time series with Missouri S&T, 16-1, after taking three of four from the Miners at home in 2010.
The Panthers of Drury (7-6, 0-0 GLVC) have struggled of late, losing five of their last six games after winning six of the first seven to start the season. The Eagles lead all-time series with the Panthers, 10-5, after winning three of four from Drury last spring.
This weekend starts a stretch of 11-straight games on the road for the Eagles, including 10 games against GLVC teams. The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of the USI Baseball Field April 5 when they start a six-game homestand.
