EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Senior guard Ellen Young poured in a career-high 34 points, but it was not enough to get the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team past the visiting University of Indianapolis Greyhounds Saturday evening in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament as the Screaming Eagles fell, 85-74, at the Physical Activities Center.

Indianapolis (15-12), which shot 52.0 percent from the field, used a 13-0 run in the first half to build a 37-24 lead.

The Screaming Eagles (16-11), who shot 46.2 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from behind the arc, answered Indianapolis's run with a 7-0 spurt to close the deficit to 37-31 at the break, but a 5-0 run to begin the second period allowed the Greyhounds to build their lead back to double-digits.

USI cut the deficit to seven on several occasions throughout the final period, but could get no closer as Indianapolis ended the Eagles' hopes of winning a GLVC Tournament title.

In addition to Young's game-high point total, senior guard Amie Newhart (Mulberry, Indiana) finished with 16 points and five rebounds, while senior forward/center Courtney Perry (Crown Point, Indiana) chipped in 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Indianapolis sophomore guard Heather Gosner hampered the Eagles all night as she finished with a team-high 31 points. Fellow classmate Kristin Turner added 19 points and five assists, while senior forward/center Katie Lyons finished with 16 points and eight rebounds for the Greyhounds.

USI, which entered the week ranked seventh in the NCAA II Midwest Region rankings, will have to wait to find out if it has qualified for the NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament. The final rankings come out Wednesday while the NCAA II Tournament selection show is March 6.
