Game Notes (pdf.)

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team closes out the 2011 calendar year when it visits Wayne State University Friday at 4:30 p.m. (CST) in Detroit, Michigan. The game can be listened to on WPSR 90.7 FM, while live stats, audio, and video can be accessed at gousieagles.com.

USI (6-3) is coming off a dominating 81-39 win over Salem International University on December 17. The Screaming Eagles outscored the Fighting Tigers, 48-12, in the paint and shot nearly 50 percent as they improved to 5-0 at the Physical Activities Center.

Winning at home has come somewhat easy for the Eagles as they are outscoring the opposition by nearly 40 points per game at the PAC.

It has been USI's games away from the PAC that has been the Eagles' Achilles heel this season. USI is 1-3 away from the PAC and 0-2 in road games. Opponents are outscoring the Eagles by more than seven points per game and holding the Eagles to a .369 shooting percentage.

If the Eagles are going to change their fortunes on the road, they will need the same type of production from freshmen forward/centers Anna Hackert and Mary O'Keefe that they got in their 42-point win over Salem International.

Hackert was 7-of-10 from the field as she finished with a game-high 17 points, while O'Keefe racked up 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals. O'Keefe was named the GLVC Player of the Week for her effort.

For the season, Hackert leads the Eagles with 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while O'Keefe is averaging 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per appearance. Senior guard/forward Kristin Raker is chipping in 11.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest, while freshman forward Brooke Valentine is averaging 8.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per outing.

USI is 8-0 all-time against Wayne State after defeating the Warriors, 81-71, at the PAC to begin the 2010-11 season.

The Warriors (6-4) are coming off a tough 70-66 setback to Tiffin University December 17 in Detroit. Senior guard Stefani Munro had 19 points to lead the Warriors, while junior forward Phaebre Colbert added 11 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.

For the season, Colbert is averaging a team-best 12.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while Munro is chipping in 12.3 points and a team-high 5.6 assists per outing. Junior center Juanita Cochran, who had eight points and 15 rebounds against Tiffin, is contributing 12.0 points and a team-leading 9.3 rebounds per contest.

Friday's game is the final non-conference bout for the Eagles as they resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play January 5 at the PAC against Missouri University of Science & Technology.
