EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana volleyball senior middle blocker
Danielle LaGrange has been named second-team AVCA All-America.
LaGrange, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, becomes the third All-American in the history of the USI volleyball program and the first since Laura Ellerbusch earned honorable mention honors in 2005—Kim Boehmer earned honorable mention All-America accolades in 2003.
“This is a tremendous award for Danielle and our program,” USI Head Coach
Leah Mercer said. “This is the highest All-America honor in the history of our program. Her efforts this season and throughout her career at USI have elevated her into a distinguished group of players.”
A graduate of Heritage Hills High School, LaGrange was named first-team Daktronics and AVCA All-Midwest Region for the second consecutive year after leading the Screaming Eagles in kills (426), kills per set (3.87), attacking percentage (.331), blocks (95), blocks per set (0.86), points (507.5), and points per set (4.61).
The two-time first-team All-GLVC honoree ranked second in the conference in points per set, third in kills per set, and fourth in attacking percentage.
Earlier this year, LaGrange earned GLVC Player of the Week honors twice and was named the AVCA Division II National Player of the Week on October 25.
In just three seasons at USI, LaGrange finished her career ranked second all-time at USI in attacking percentage (.324), seventh in block assists (233), and eighth in kills (1,139). She also ranked sixth at USI in total blocks (268) since 2000.
LaGrange, a kinesiology major, helped lead the Eagles to a 20-11 record, 14-4 in the GLVC, and their second straight trip to the NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament in 2011.
