Eagles soar over Cougars, 109-42

USI surpasses century mark for second straight game

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team soared over Mid-Continent University, 109-42, Friday night at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles fly to a 3-0 start in 2011-12, while Mid-Continent is 3-4 this season.

USI marched past the century mark for the second-straight game and posted its largest margin of victory (67 points) since defeating Purdue University-Calumet, 115-37, in 2000-01. The squad is averaging over 95 points per game during the season-opening homestand.

The Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the first three minutes of the game were up and led by as many as 18 points, 22-4, by the midway mark of the first half. They would go on to build a 36-point halftime lead, 56-20.

The second half saw the Eagles stretch the margin to as many as 69 points twice before of posting the 67-point, 109-42 victory. USI shot a blistering 58.6 percent from the field (41-70) as a team, hitting a school-record 15 three-point field goals.

USI senior forward Kristen Raker (Indianapolis, Indiana) led the Eagles with a career-high 22 points. She was a red-hot 8-of-11 from the field, 5-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc, and 1-of-1 from the line.

Raker was followed in the scoring column by sophomore forward Nicole Hazemi (Lombard, Illinois), who also had a career-high with 20 points. Sophomore guards Stephanie Carpenter (Salem, Illinois) and Marina Hartman (Big Bend, Indiana) recorded two-year highs with 13 points and 11 points, respectively, to round out the double-figure scorers.

The Eagles complete the season-opening homestand Tuesday when they hosts Midwest Region foe Northwood University at the PAC. Game time is 5:15 p.m.
