USI's contest with the Panthers of Drury is a rematch of the Eagles' first-round NCAA II Tournament game from last season. Drury, which lost to Michigan Tech University in the Midwest Regional championship a year ago, handed the Eagles a tough 71-48 setback in the opening round.
Drury (9-4, 5-0 GLVC), which is receiving votes in the latest USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll, has won eight straight games after beginning the season with a 1-4 record. The Panthers are 7-2 all-time against the Eagles, winning the last three in the series.
Senior guard Ja'Nell Jones leads Drury with 16.2 points and 4.4 assists per contest, while freshman guard Bethanie Funderbunk is chipping in 13.3 points per appearance. Funderbunk scored 24 points to lead the Panthers to an 82-54 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan last Saturday.
USI trails the all-time series with Quincy, 19-18, and is 7-15 since 2000 despite last season's 82-77 overtime win over the Lady Hawks at the PAC.
Quincy (12-1, 4-1 GLVC) has won seven straight games and is the GLVC's highest scoring team after posting an 83-54 road win over Lewis University this past Saturday. The Hawks, who host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday, have three players averaging better than 15 points per game and are averaging 89.9 points per contest, good enough for third in the nation.
Junior forward Ali Schwagmeyer is averaging a team-best 17.4 points and 4.7 assists per game, while senior forward Courtney Shuman is chipping in 16.5 points and a team-high tying 7.0 rebounds per appearance. Senior guard Stephanie Wagner rounds out the Hawks' double-figure scorers with 15.1 points per contest.
Kentucky Wesleyan (7-5, 1-4 GLVC) has lost two straight and three of its last four after beginning the year with a 4-0 mark. USI leads the all-time series, 42-24, and is 15-3 against the Panthers since 2000 after sweeping the season series a year ago.
The Panthers, who host Rockhurst University Thursday before visiting the University of Illinois-Springfield Saturday, are led by junior forward Kristen Rowe and junior center Katie Behrens. Rowe is averaging a team-best 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest, while Behrens is chipping in 10.3 points per outing.
