EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 16th-ranked University of Southern Indiana baseball team finished the 2010 regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Quincy University, 9-1 and 10-3, Sunday afternoon. USI finishes the regular season 39-12 overall and 25-5 in GLVC, while Quincy fell to 26-23, 13-18 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles will be the number one seed in the GLVC Tournament May 6-9 at the GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois. USI will play eighth-seeded Lewis University on May 6 at 3:30 p.m.
The Eagles took the opener on a pair of runs in the third, three more in the sixth, and four in the seventh to defeat the Hawks, 9-1. The USI's 10 hits were highlighted with two-run home runs by senior rightfielder Caleb Ehmke (Waterloo, Illinois) and sophomore second baseman Brad Vance (Louisville, Kentucky) in the seventh inning.
On the mound, junior right-hander Dan Marcacci (Jupiter, Florida) posted the complete game victory. Marcacci (5-2) allowed two hits and one earned run in seven innings, while striking out one.
In the nightcap, the Eagles scored four runs in the second and seventh innings on their way to a 10-3 victory. Junior leftfielder Michael Huling (South Bend, Indiana) led the way at the plate, going four-for-six, scoring three runs, driving in four RBIs, and a pair of solo home runs.
Vance also kept up the key hitting with two more hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
On the mound, sophomore right-hander Josh Schultze (Evansville, Indiana) posted his six win this spring after 5.1 innings of work. Schultze (6-2) allowed four hits and two runs, while walking four and striking out four.
The 39-victories in the regular season is the most by a USI baseball team in the history of the program.
