EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana baseball team advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional championship game with a 6-5 win over Northern Kentucky University Saturday evening at the USI Baseball Field in Evansville, Indiana. USI, the top seed in the regional, goes to 46-13, while NKU, the third seed, finishes the year 43-17.

The Screaming Eagles play second-seeded and 20th-ranked Grand Valley State for the championship noon Sunday at the USI Baseball Field. GVSU, which is 37-14, defeated USI in Saturday's first game, 6-3.

USI will be making its second appearance in the regional finals in the last four seasons.

The Eagles were led to the win in Saturday's elimination game by sophomore right-hander Josh Schultze (Evansville, Indiana). Schultze (8-2) allowed a run in the third, the fourth, and eighth on 10 hits, while striking out four in seven-plus innings of work.

After senior closer/shortstop Wandy Rosario (Boston, Massachusetts) got the Eagles out of an eighth inning jam, sophomore right-hander Trevor Leach (Danville, Indiana) finished the game to get his second save of the season.

At the plate, senior rightfielder Caleb Ehmke (Waterloo, Indiana) led the Eagles with a pair of hits. Ehmke tripled and scored in the fourth and doubled in a pair of runs in the fifth.
