EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana senior rightfielder Caleb Ehmke (Waterloo, Indiana) drove four runs during a seven-run second inning to lead Screaming Eagles to a 12-1 win over Wayne State College (NE) Sunday at the USI Baseball Field. The 26th-ranked Eagles raised their record to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational, while the Wildcats fell to 4-8, 0-3 in the tournament.
Emhke, who finished the game three-for-four with five RBIs, led off the second inning with his second home run of the year and later in the inning had three-run triple as the Eagles took control 7-0. USI sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning and had five straight hits to start the inning.
USI would go on to add a pair of runs in the third and three more in the sixth to lead 12-0. WSC scored their lone tally in the seventh for the 12-1 final.
On the mound, junior right-hander Dan Marcacci (Jupiter, Florida) posted his second win of the year. Marcacci (2-1) allowed seven hits and one run, while striking out three in seven innings of work.
Junior right-hander Jared Canterbury (Petersburg, Illinois) made his first appearance as an Eagle and finished the game for Marcacci. Canterbury went two innings, allowing one hit.
In the first game today, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside scored four runs in the third inning and went on to defeat WSC, 6-1. UW-Parkside finished invitational 3-1 and went to 4-8 in 2010.
The Dunn Hospitality Invitational concludes Monday with the first ever night game at the USI Baseball Field when the Eagles play WSC at 5 p.m.
