Game Notes (pdf.)
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team is looking for improvement when it hosts Salem International University (West Virginia) Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (4-4) is coming off a disappointing 78-66 road loss to the University of North Alabama last Wednesday and is hoping a return to the PAC will be just what the doctor ordered.
The Screaming Eagles are 3-1 at the PAC, outscoring the opposition by nearly eight points per game during those four contests. On the road, however, the Eagles are 0-3 and are being outscored by nearly 24 points per contest.
Senior guard
Ellen Young is leading the Eagles with 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest, while senior guard
Amie Newhart is chipping in 11.3 points and a team-high 2.1 assists per appearance.
Young is starting to heat up, having averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game during USI's last two contests. She had the Eagles' first double-double of the year against Bellarmine University two weeks ago when she scored 18 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds. The preseason All-American put up a team-high 23 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists against North Alabama.
Salem International (0-13) has struggled mightily throughout the first 13 games of the season. The Fighting Tigers are being outscored by more than 40 points per contest and are consistently playing just seven players.
Junior forward Brittany Wells has averaged 10.0 points per game to lead the Tigers, while junior center Treshaun Robertson is leading SIU on the glass with 8.0 rebounds per contest.
This marks the first-ever meeting between USI and Salem International in women's basketball.
