USI returns to the court at Indianapolis

Eagles ranked 4th in latest poll

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –The 4th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team returns to the court Thursday at the University of Indianapolis for a GLVC East Division showdown. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CST).

Thursday's match-up with UIndy will be USI's (16-0, 7-0 GLVC) first game since the passing of senior center Jeron Lewis after the win at 10th-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College. USI was led in the win over its longtime rival by senior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois), who had 15 points, and senior guard Marvin Gray (Freeport, Bahamas), who dropped in 13 points.

For the season, Smith continues to lead the team and the conference with 23.6 points per game. The senior guard also ranks first in the GLVC in three-point field goals made per game.

As a team, the Eagles are one of six teams throughout the three NCAA divisions that are still undefeated. USI also is tied with Quincy University, Arkansas Tech University, and Minnesota State University-Mankato with the longest winning streak (16 games) in Division II. The longest winning streak in the country belongs to the University of Kentucky (18 games).

The Greyhounds of UIndy (10-7, 4-4 GLVC) are currently in fourth place in the GLVC East Division and has lost three of its last four games. The 'Hounds are under the direction of second year Head Coach Stan Gouard, who was a two-time national player of the year during his three years at USI.

Leading the way for the Greyhounds is junior guard Darius Adams, who is averaging 18.2 points and 4.2 assists per game.

The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Greyhounds, 46-15, and have a 14-2 mark against UIndy since 2000. Last year, USI won the only meeting at the Physical Activities Center, 87-74, as Smith led the Eagles with 17 points off the bench.
