Women's soccer falls short in comeback at WKU

BOX SCORE: Western Kentucky 3, Southern Indiana 2

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team could not complete the comeback attempt and lost to Division I Western Kentucky University, 3-2, Friday evening in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The Lady Hilltoppers jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the intermission and increased the lead to 3-0 with a second half goal before the Screaming Eagles could get on the scoreboard. USI's offense kicked into gear when freshman forward Susan Ellsperman(Newburgh, IN)scored her first collegiate goal at 69:33.

Ellsperman cut the WKU lead to 3-1 on an indirect kick and was assisted on the play by sophomore forward Meagan Kempf(Evansville, IN) (Newburgh, IN). The Eagles sliced the Lady Hilltopper's two-goal lead in half five minutes later when senior midfielder Kara Georgeff (Highland, IN)scored off a corner kick by senior back Alison Conquest(Crown Point, IN).

That would be as close as the Eagles would get as they would only get one more shot in the final minutes. WKU out shot USI 27-10 in the game and had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3.

USI stays on the road for its next contest, traveling to Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee, for a 1:30 p.m. kick-off. The Eagles also opens the 2009 home schedule next week when they host 20th-ranked Northern Kentucky University Thursday at Strassweg Field.
