BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Senior distance runner
Samuel Gebreselassie (Avon, Indiana) and freshman middle distance runner
Wes Masterson (Danville, Indiana) recorded top-five finishes Saturday to lead the University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team at the Hoosier Invitational.
Gebreselassie finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16 minutes, 25.13 seconds, while Masterson was fifth in the 800 meters with a time of two minutes, 00.66 seconds.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles had four top-five finishes and 10 top-10 performances. The distance medley relay team of sophomore
Derrick Thomas (Elkhart, Indiana), sophomore
Andrew Nalin (Evansville, Indiana), and freshmen
Bryan Suarez (Okeechobee, Florida) and
John Latta (Brazil, Indiana) posted the Eagles' top finish by placing third with a time of 10 minutes, 58.75 seconds.
USI's DMR team of Masterson, sophomore
Scott Kern (Evansville, Indiana), and freshmen
Joe Angermeier (Mooresville, Indiana) and
Andrew Duggan (Evansville, Indiana) placed fifth to round out the Eagles' top-five performances.
The Eagles return to action February 13-14 when they compete at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan.
