EVANSVILLE, Ind. –University of Southern Indiana junior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Screaming Eagles to an 84-71 victory over Drury University Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises it record to 21-4 overall and 10-2 in the GLVC, while Drury falls to 12-10 overall, 5-7 GLVC.

Smith, who had 21 points by halftime, posted the team's single-best scoring game of the season by hitting 12-of-19 from the field and seven-of-13 from beyond the three-point arc. The seven three-point field goals matched a season-best for the junior guard and fell one short of tying the USI single-game record.

Following Smith in the scoring column was junior forward Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had 16 points, and senior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York), who dropped in 15 points. Junior forward Tyrone Bradsahw (Cincinnati, Ohio) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points.

Russ and junior forward Brandon Carr (Baltimore, Maryland) led the Eagles on the boards with six rebounds each, while Bradshaw controlled the rim by blocking five shots.

USI controlled the game nearly from start to finish, trailing by two points for less than 30 seconds in the first half. The Eagles, who shot a blistering 73.1 percent in the first half (19-26), would build a 21 point lead by halftime, 52-31. The squad would go on to lead by as many as 24 points in the second half, 64-40, with 14:58 to play.

The Panther cut into the Eagles' advantage midway through the second half, pulling to within 12 points at 71-59 with 8:05 left. USI reasserted control, building the lead back to 20 points, 83-63, before settling for the 84-71 victory.

The Eagles, who have won six straight, go back on the road in the GLVC next week when they travel to Quincy University on February 14 to play the Hawks for a second time in less than 10 days. USI won the first meeting, 85-64, last Thursday.
