QUINCY, Ill. –The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker at Quincy University, 74-71, Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Illinois. USI falls to 21-5 overall and 10-3 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 14-10, 5-9 GLVC.

In addition to snapping USI's six-game winning streak, the Screaming Eagles fall into second place in the GLVC West Division and a half-game behind Rockhurst University. Rockhurst moved into first with a win at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 71-62.

The Eagles had a chance to put the game away in the second half when they built an eight-point lead, 67-59, with 6:67 left on back-to-back dunks by senior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) and junior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio). The Hawks fought back with a 9-0 offensive surge to take a 68-67 advantage with 4:06 to play.

The teams traded leads in the final minutes with Quincy moving ahead for the final time, 72-71, with 27 second left. The Hawks upped the lead to 73-71 on a free throw by sophomore guard Josh Edmonds with 14 seconds left.

The Eagles had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but junior forward Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio) could not get a lay-up to fall with one second left on the clock. The Hawks' freshman guard Courtney Belger hit a free throw with one second left to finish the scoring and the 74-71 final.

In an ugly first half that saw neither team shoot above 40 percent, USI had the advantage by halftime, 32-29. The Eagles had built their largest lead of the game to that point, 32-25, with 1:21 left in the half before the Hawks closed the gap with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer.

Individually, Pimble was on top of the scoring column for the Eagles with 16 points. USI junior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) followed Pimble with 14 points, while Bradshaw hit double-figures for the fourth straight game with 12.

For just the sixth time this year, USI was outrebounded in the game, 38-33. Pimble and Bradshaw led the Eagles with seven boards each.

The Eagles return to action in the GLVC Thursday when they travel to the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a 7:30 p.m. contest. USI finishes next week at the Physical Activities Center when it hosts Missouri University of Science and Technology for Senior Day and the conclusion of its 19-game home schedule.
