EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team looks to push its winning streak to three when it hosts Marygrove College Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (3-2) is coming off a 68-64 come-from-behind victory over Urbana University Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Rinesha Soaper and junior guard Ellen Young each had 14 points in the second period as the Screaming Eagles overcame a 12-point first-half deficit to record their second straight regional victory.
Soaper, who is averaging 11.4 points per contest, led all scorers as she finished with a season-best 21 points to go with three assists and four steals. Young, who is chipping in 11.2 points per outing, finished the game with 16 points and three assists.
Junior guard Amie Newhart continues to lead the Eagles in the scoring column this season as she is averaging 13.8 points per game. Newhart scored all 11 of her points against Urbana in the opening period to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
Sunday's game marks the second-ever meeting between USI and Marygrove. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 1-0, after defeating the Mustangs 68-51 November 30, 2006.
The Mustangs (3-1), who have won three straight regular-season games, are coming off an 87-45 exhibition loss to Eastern Michigan University. Junior forward Ebony Jackson, who is averaging 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest, led Marygrove with 14 points in the loss.
Freshman forward Keara Marks leads the Mustangs with 10.3 points per contest, while junior forward Santrea Bush is chipping in 10.0 points per game.
USI concludes its three-game homestand Tuesday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Lincoln Memorial University at the PAC. The game will be the first-ever meeting between USI and the Railsplitters, who enter the game with a 1-1 mark.
Lincoln Memorial, a member of the South Atlantic Conference, is coming off a 63-58 setback to King College Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Dayshalee Salaman had 18 points, 3 assists, and four steals to lead the team.
Salaman is second on the team with 13.5 points per contest, while junior guard Carolyn Mills is averaging a team-best 14.0 points per appearance.
