USI wins exhibition game at home by 30

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana senior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 23 points and senior center Jeron Lewis (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) recorded a double-double as the Screaming Eagles defeated Centre College, 88-58, in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI finishes the exhibition season with a 1-1 record, while Centre goes to 0-1 in the preseason.

USI opens the 2009-10 season for real November 21 when it hosts Harris-Stowe State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. next Saturday.

Bradshaw was red hot for the Eagles, going nine-of-11 from the field, including a three-pointer, and four-of-five from the line to score his 23 points. The senior forward, who scored 17 of the 23 points during the second half, also had a game-high five blocks.

Lewis posted his double-double by scoring 17 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. He was seven-of-12 from the field and three-of-four from the line.

In addition to Bradshaw and Lewis, senior guard Jamar Smith scored in double-digits with 21 points. He also dished out six assists while hitting four of his eight field goals from beyond the three-point arc.

The Eagles took control of the game early and built a 14-point lead with 6:53 left before halftime. The Colonels cut the margin to six, 39-33, but an 8-0 run restored the lead to 12 points before USI settled for a 47-37 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, USI steadily increased the margin and led by as many as 33 points, 86-53, with 1:10 left to play. The Eagles would hit 62.1 percent of its field goals in the second half (18-29) as they flew out of range for the Colonels.
