EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana announced the signing of senior 6'7” guard/forward Austin Davis to a national letter of intent for the 2010-11 season. Davis is the first player to sign with USI and Head Coach Rodney Watson in the early period.
Davis, who has grown eight inches since his freshman season at Freeport High School, averaged 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a junior, while leading the Pretzels to a 15-14 overall record. He also shot 52 percent from the field, 42 percent from long range, and 77 percent from the charity stripe.
“Austin is deceptive and is much stronger and tougher than he first appears,” said Watson. “He comes from an excellent high school program and was a key member of the Illinois Wolves AAU team.
“Austin is a skilled basketball player, an excellent student, and comes from a good family,” Watson concluded.
The Screaming Eagles, who have six seniors on the 2009-10 team, finish the exhibition portion of the season Saturday when they host Centre College for a 3:15 p.m. contest at the Physical Activities Center. USI open the regular season campaign November 21 when Harris-Stowe State University visits the Eagles.
