EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team took over first place in the GLVC West Division with a 98-92 double-overtime win over Rockhurst University Saturday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 17-4 overall and 7-2 GLVC, while Rockhurst fell to 11-7, 7-3 GLVC.

The win puts the Screaming Eagles a half game ahead of the Hawks in the West Division. The double-overtime win was the first for USI since the Eagles defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 93-92, at the PAC in January of 2000.

The final run to propel USI to victory was started by senior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx New York). Pimble put USI ahead, 91-89, with a put-back off a missed USI free throw, while junior forward Brandon Carr (Baltimore, Maryland) increased the lead to 93-89 with a pair of free throws.

After the Hawks cut the USI lead to one, 93-92, junior guardMarvin Gray (Freeport, Bahamas), junior forward Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Pimble combined to hit seven-of-eight charity shots to clinch the victory, 98-92.

The Eagles had to scramble to get the game into the second overtime, trailing by as many as five points in the last two minutes. Junior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) hit a three-point field goal with 10 second remaining to force the second extra period.

After the teams played to a 38-38 first half tie, USI led for nearly the entire second half and had a lead of at least nine points twice, 66-57 and 68-59. Rockhurst battled back to force the eighth tie of the game at the end of regulation, 75-75, when RU junior guard Aaron Hill hit a jumper with 17 seconds remaining.

The game featured 13 ties and 12 lead changes.

In the scoring column, Pimble led the way with a career-high 25 points with eight points coming in the overtime periods. Russ and Smith followed Pimble with 18 points each, while Gray and junior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio) dropped in 13 points and 12 points, respectively.

Bradshaw led USI in rebounding with 12 boards in posting his first double-double as an Eagle, while Gray led team with seven assists.

The Eagles conclude the four-game homestand with their final non-conference game of the season when they host Lake Erie College Monday at 7:30 p.m. Lake Erie will come into Monday's regional match-up with a 4-14 overall record and are led by senior forward Derrick Thornton with a 15.7 points per game average.

Monday's contest will be the first meeting between USI and Lake Erie.
