EVANSVILLE, Ind.– University of Southern Indiana junior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illlinois) scored a season-high 25 points in leading the 21st-ranked Screaming Eagles to a 93-86 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 16-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLVC, while UMSL falls to 11-8, 3-6 GLVC.

The victory also is the first win of the year in the GLVC West Division and also takes USI's home record to 13-1.

Smith led four Eagles to score in double-figures by hitting 10-of-15 from the field and five-of-eight from beyond the three-point arc. He also had four assists and three steals in 37 minutes of action.

USI junior forward Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed Smith in the scoring column with 18 points off the bench. Russ was a red-hot from the field, hitting eight-of-nine field goals, as well as dishing out three assists.

Eagles' senior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) and junior forward Brandon Carr (Baltimore, Maryland) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points and 11 points, respectively. Carr also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

USI built a nine-point halftime lead, 47-38, by hitting a hot 64.3 percent from the field in the first half. The Eagles used an 11-2 run to take control and lead 25-19 after trailing by as many as three points in the first six minutes of the game.

After the Tritons cut the Eagles' lead to five points early in the second half, USI went on a 20-6 run to extend the margin to 22 points, 67-48, with 8:53 to play. The 22-points would be the largest lead of the game for the Eagles.

The Tritons tried to get back into the game in the final three minutes of the contest, but could not get the margin back under double-digits until the final score of 93-86.

The Eagles continue the four-game homestand Saturday when GLVC West-leading Rockhurst University comes to the PAC for a 3:15 p.m. contest. The Hawks won a squeaker at Kentucky Wesleyan College tonight, 59-57, to raise their overall record 11-6 overall, 7-2 GLVC.
