EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The 12th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team was upset by Kentucky Wesleyan College, 69-63, in the "Battle for the Bridge" Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI falls to 15-4 overall and 5-2 in the GLVC, while KWC raises its record 10-3 overall, 3-3 GLVC.

The loss also snapped USI's home winning streak at 14 games and the "Battle for the Bridge" streak at seven games.

The Eagles appeared to have control of the game with 13:19 left in the second half, building a 13-point advantage, 46-33. It was at that point that the Panthers went on a 21-8 run to tie the contest at 54-54 with 3:14 to play.

USI regained the lead briefly at 55-54, but KWC took its first lead since the first half, 57-55 on three-point field goal and never looked back. The Panthers hit eight-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes to clinch the victory and was 13-of-18 from the line in the game. The Eagles, on the flip side, were just nine-of-18 from the charity stripe in the game

In the first half, USI went into the locker room with a one point advantage, 27-26, after posting an 11-point lead, 22-11, midway through the opening stanza.

The Eagles were led in the loss by senior guard Kenny Love (South Bend, Indiana) with 15 points on five-of-nine from the field, including two three-point field goals, and three-of-three from the line. Junior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) followed Love with 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers.

USI is idle this weekend, but resumes its four-game homestand January 22 when it hosts the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a 7:30 p.m.
