EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team finishes the 2007-08 season when it hosts Missouri University of Science and Technology Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday at 1 p.m.
Thursday's contest between USI and Missouri S&T is the Screaming Eagles' "Think Pink" night at the Physical Activities Center. Fans wearing pink and showing up before 5:30 p.m. will be admitted to both the men's and women's games for free, while people who are wearing pink and show up after 5:30 p.m. will be admitted for $5.
This marks the second meeting of the season between the Eagles (9-16, 4-13 GLVC) and the Miners of Missouri S&T (19-5, 13-4 GLVC). Missouri S&T defeated the Eagles, 78-63, in Rolla, Missouri, on January 5 and lead the all-time series between the two schools, 7-0.
Freshman guard
Amie Newhart (Mulberry, Indiana) and junior forward/center
Ninette Evans (Memphis, Tennessee) had 12 and 10 points, respectively, while senior forward
Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) was held to seven points in the first meeting with Missouri S&T.
Baines ranks fifth in the GLVC with a team-high 17.0 points per game and is sixth in the league with a team-leading 7.3 rebounds per contest. Newhart is USI's second-leading scorer at 9.6 points per outing and leads the Eagles with 2.8 assists per game.
Missouri S&T, which hosts Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday evening, was led by senior guard Jamie Forsberg and junior guard/forward Lauren Dubbert in its win over the Eagles. Forsberg had a game-high 17 points and was 9-of-10 from the free throw line, while Dubbert added 16 points and was 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Junior forward Tamara McCaskill leads the Miners with 15.4 points per game, while senior forward Katie Bunge is averaging a team-high 8.0 rebounds per contest.
On Saturday, the Eagles will honor Baines and senior guard
Marshay Jolly (Merrillville, Indiana), as part of their Senior Day festivities, prior to their 1 p.m. tip-off with the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis.
Baines will finish her career ranked seventh all-time in career scoring at USI and has a chance to move into 11th all-time in career rebounding at USI. Jolly is averaging a career-high 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this season.
USI's senior class led the Eagles in their 77-72 victory over the Tritons in St. Louis, Missouri, in January. Baines scored a season-high 27 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Jolly added 12 points and five rebounds.
Senior guard Courtney Watts led Missouri-St. Louis (7-18, 4-13 GLVC) with 15 points in the first meeting with USI. Watts leads the Tritons with 10.8 points and 3.8 assists per game. Junior forward Mary Slaughter leads Missouri-St. Louis with 5.8 rebounds per outing.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with Missouri-St. Louis, 22-10, and are 13-4 against the Tritons since 2000.
