EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team opens its home schedule Saturday when it hosts Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Edinboro University Saturday at 5:15 p.m.

USI (1-1) is coming off an 83-76 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State University and is looking to capitalize on that performance as it plays in the Physical Activities Center for the first time this season.

"After a couple tough games away from the PAC, it's nice to have the chance to play in front of the home crowd," Head Coach Rick Stein said. "The timing is good after playing two strong opponents in Texas and a week of practice at home."

The Screaming Eagles showed marked improvements in their victory over the Savage Storm after a disappointing season-opening loss to Abilene Christian University. USI shot 15 percent better from the floor and almost 40 percent better from behind the arc in the victory.

"I thought our execution was better," Stein said. "We scored some points off our defense, but our execution on the offensive end gave us better scoring opportunities."

Stein was pleased with the way the team bounced back, especially on the defensive end. "I thought we guarded better, played better defense, and did a better job on the glass. Those are things we are going to have to do as the season goes on."

Of course hit helps when a player scores a career-high 26 points, as sophomore guard Lauren Meneghetti (Munster, Indiana) did against Southeastern Oklahoma State. It also helps to have a pair of players bring down 10 or more rebounds, as senior forward/center Brittany Neuman (Huntingburg, Indiana) and junior guard/forward Abby Williams (St. Joseph, Illinois) did against the Savage Storm.

For the season, Meneghetti leads the Eagles with 18.0 points per game, while fellow classmate Ellen Young (Salem, Illinois) is close behind with 15.0 points per outing. Neuman is currently tied for third in the league with 10.0 rebounds per game, while Williams is chipping in 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.

USI will need that production Saturday when it faces the Fighting Scots of Edinboro Saturday.

Edinboro (2-0) averaged 84.5 points per game in its first two outings and has three players averaging more than or close to 20 points per game. "They've got a good offense," Stein said. "We will have to work hard to slow them down."

Junior guard Samantha Reimer leads Edinboro with 28.5 points and 4.0 assists per game, while junior forward Kelsey Conklin is chipping in 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Freshman forward Renee Brown added 19.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in the Fight Scots' first two contests.

Following their first-ever meeting with Edinboro, the Eagles host Mid-Continent University Monday at 5:15 p.m. Mid-Continent is 1-4 and visits Baptist Bible College and William Baptist College this weekend before making the trip to Evansville.
