Lindenschmidt lifts Eagles to sweep of Bellarmine

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Senior second baseman Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana) went a combined 6-for-6 with five runs batted in to help lead the University of Southern Indiana softball team to a pair of victories over Bellarmine University Saturday afternoon at the USI Softball Field.

The Screaming Eagles (19-15, 6-6 GLVC) won the first game, 5-4, on the strength of Lindenschmidt's walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning. USI exploded offensively in game two as it ripped three shots over the fence en route to a 12-4 victory in six innings over the Knights.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one, senior catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) drove in Lindenschmidt to tie the contest. Anderson finished the game with a pair of RBIs after driving in a run during USI's two-run fourth inning.

After spotting the Knights a run in the top of the seventh, Lindenschmidt found herself at the plate with runners at second and third base with two outs on the board. With a full count, Lindenschmidt ripped a single to left-centerfield that scored freshman leftfielder Lindsey Raikes (Speedway, Indiana) and junior centerfielder Kirsten Morgan (Oakland City, Indiana).

Junior hurler Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) picked up the victory. Harrison (10-5) gave up four runs, three earned, off seven hits. She struck out six batters while not allowing a walk in seven innings of work.

In game two, the Eagles got three-run bombs from Anderson and junior third baseman/pitcher Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio), as well as a solo blast off the bat of senior leftfielder Nikki Nichols (Henderson, Kentucky). Nichols's home run was the first of her collegiate career.

In addition to the three home runs, Lindenschmidt, who finished the day with a combined three runs scored and three doubles, had a pair of extra-base hits and three RBIs in the second game. Anderson finished the second game with four RBIs, including a walk-off, run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Eickholt (5-5) picked up the win after allowing just one run off five hits in five innings of work. She struck out three batters while issuing just one walk.

USI returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on No. 13-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in a GLVC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
