EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team returns home this weekend when it hosts a pair of GLVC doubleheaders at the USI Softball Field. The Screaming Eagles take on Northern Kentucky University Friday at noon and Bellarmine University Saturday at noon.
USI (16-14, 3-5 GLVC) is looking for a little payback Friday when it takes on Northern Kentucky. The Norse (19-15, 4-4 GLVC) knocked the Eagles out of the GLVC Tournament last season before defeating USI in the third round NCAA II Great Lakes Region Tournament a week later.
The Eagles were 1-3 last season against NKU after splitting a doubleheader during the regular season.
Though the GLVC season is still young, both USI and NKU find themselves in a crucial point of the season. NKU is in a three-way tie for sixth in the GLVC standings, while the Eagles are just a game back.
USI faces a Bellarmine squad Saturday that finds itself near the bottom of the league standings with a 14-18 overall mark and a 2-6 league record. The Eagles swept a doubleheader from the Knights a year ago in Louisville, Kentucky, and are looking to add to a six-game winning streak over Bellarmine.
Sophomore shortstop
Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) continues to lead the Eagles offensively. She is hitting .356 with 20 RBIs and a league-best 12 doubles. Senior catcher
Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) is hitting .346 with 19 RBIs and a team-high four home runs, while junior third baseman/pitcher
Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) has hit three home runs and driven in 18 runs.
Eickholt and junior hurler
Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) lead the Eagles with a combined 12 victories this season. Eickholt (4-4) is holding the opposition to a .230 batting average and has posted a 2.38 earned run average, while Harrison (8-5) is holding opponents to a .256 batting average and has posted 2.74 ERA.
