OWENSBORO, Ky.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team's 33-game winning streak over Kentucky Wesleyan College came to a close Tuesday as the Panthers pinned a 5-4 eight-inning loss on the Screaming Eagles.

Game two was suspended in the bottom of the ninth due to lightning and rain. A decision is expected on whether the game will end in a 2-2 tie later this week.

In game one, USI (25-22, 9-10 GLVC) struck first when sophomore outfielder Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois) hit a solo home run, her first of the year and sixth of her young career, to lead off the top of the first inning. The Eagles tacked on another run in the top of the first when sophomore shortstop Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) hit a two-out, run-scoring single through the left side of the infield.

Kentucky Wesleyan (22-23, 5-15 GLVC), however, answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 2-2. The Panthers tacked on another run in the second inning to take a 3-2 advantage.

Ligmanowski, who was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs in game one, came through with a two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning to put USI back into the lead (4-3).

After watching the Panthers tie the game in the fourth inning, the Eagles offense, which had five hits throughout the first four innings of the game, was limited to just two hits and no runs throughout the rest of the contest.

With one out and runners at the corners in the bottom of the eighth inning, KWC sophomore pitcher/shortstop Haleigh Ashworth came through with the game-winning single.

Ashworth (10-10) picked up the win after allowing four runs, two earned, off seven hits in eight innings of action.

Junior pitcher Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) was charged with the loss for the Eagles. Harrison (14-11) gave up five runs, three earned, off 12 hits in seven-and-a-third innings of work.

The loss marked just the sixth time in 27 games that the Eagles have scored first and not come away with the victory.

USI closes the regular season this weekend when it hosts Saint Joseph's College Saturday at noon and the University of Indianapolis Sunday at noon. Sunday's doubleheader with Indianapolis is Senior Day and USI Varsity Club Day.

The Eagles will honor their four seniors—catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana), second baseman Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana), first baseman Jennifer Mullikin (Greenwood, Indiana), and outfielder Nikki Nichols (Henderson, Kentucky)—following the doubleheader with Indianapolis.
