KENOSHA, Wis.—Senior first baseman
Jennifer Mullikin (Greenwood, Indiana) went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to lift the University of Southern Indiana softball team to a much-needed 5-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the second game of a twin bill Sunday afternoon. USI lost the first game, 2-1.
The Screaming Eagles (16-14, 3-5 GLVC) saw a 1-0 lead evaporate in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one as the Rangers (14-11, 4-4 GLVC) evened the score with a one-out triple. UW-Parkside won the game with a walk-off, two-out single in the bottom of the seventh.
Senior catcher
Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) had the team's lone RBI in the fifth inning and junior hurler
Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) was charged with the loss after giving up two runs off seven hits in six-and-two-thirds innings of work. Harrison (8-5) struck out three batters while issuing just one walk.
In game two, junior third baseman/pitcher
Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when she hit a sacrifice fly to plate senior outfielder
Nikki Nichols (Henderson, Kentucky).
USI, which had 11 hits in the game, took advantage of a couple errors to plate three runs in the fourth inning and take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Eagles had three straight hits in the inning that included a two-run single by Mullikin and an RBI double by freshman catcher/designated player
Tara McConnell (Henderson, Kentucky). Mullikin's single in the seventh inning put the Eagles up 5-0 and safely on their way to the victory.
Eickholt (4-4) was solid in the pitcher's circle as she allowed just two unearned runs off four hits to record the complete-game victory.
The Eagles return to action Friday when they host Northern Kentucky University in a GLVC doubleheader at the USI Softball Field. They also host Bellarmine University Saturday in a conference doubleheader. First pitch on both days is slated for noon.
