Eagles explode for 14 runs against Georgian Court

KISSIMMEE, Fla.— The University of Southern Indiana softball team's bats erupted as the Screaming Eagles posted a season-high run total in their 14-1 victory in five innings over Georgian Court University Friday morning at the Division II Rebel Spring Games.

USI (14-1), however, lost its first game of the day, 3-0, to the College of Saint Rose.

Senior first baseman Jennifer Mullikin (Greenwood, Indiana) went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBIs in the victory over Georgian Court. Sophomore rightfielder Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois) and senior catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) also tallied three RBIs in the victory.

Junior pitcher Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) picked up the victory against Georgian Court, while fellow classmate Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) was charged with the loss against Saint Rose.

The Eagles, who are 8-2 at the Division II Rebel Spring Games, conclude their week in Florida Saturday when they take on Wayne State University at 2 p.m. (CST) and the University of Minnesota-Duluth at 4 p.m.

Saint Rose 3, Southern Indiana 0
Saint Rose scored twice in the top of the sixth inning and once more in the seventh and held the Eagles to just three hits en route to a 3-0 victory over USI.

Wood (1-2) pitched effectively as she scattered eight hits throughout seven inning, but was charged with the setback after giving up three runs, two earned.

A lead-off single, followed by a walk two batters later got Wood into trouble in the sixth inning as Saint Rose capitalized to plate the first two runs of the game. Saint Rose took advantage of three errors in the seventh to score the third run.

Southern Indiana 14, Georgian Court 1
After spotting their opposition a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Eagles exploded for nine runs in the top of the third and five more in the fourth en route to a 14-1 shellacking of Georgian Court.

USI racked up 15 hits in the victory and had three players record three RBIs. In addition to getting the trifecta of RBIs from Mullikin, Anderson, and Ligmanowski, the Eagles got two RBIs out of junior catcher Courtney Bates (Newburgh, Indiana) as well as an RBI from junior third baseman Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) and senior leftfielder Nikki Nichols (Henderson, Kentucky).
